Artificial Intelligence
my stance
For those who understand it, A.I is a powerful tool for solving problems and managing autonomous systems.
For a lot who don't, it's sorcery that should never see the light of day.
While it's an amazing technology, it's important that we use it ethically but also to not be too afraid of it. (At least with the systems we understand)
The concept of large scale public AI systems can be scary, not because of the risks with the AI doing something that wasn't intended, but because of what humans can do with it.
Social scoring systems is a particularly nasty case of ethical concern. Such a system typically manipulates peoples lives, purely autonomously, with the sole intention of benefitting people in power and controlling the larger population.
A more civil use of a similar concept could be a public safety assistant system used to monitor and resolve potential crimes.
If a fight breaks out, a restraining order is being breached, a hit and run car has been seen, or maybe someone's had a follower for a while, an AI system connected to public CCTV could potentially be used to detect these situations and notify public security to look into it, either taking action, dismissing a false report or driving through the area just in case.
